Project Scope

Alloy was contracted by the City of Jacksonville, Florida for the abatement and demolition of both the Courthouse and City Hall Annex. The Courthouse, a 370,000 square foot building and the City Hall Annex, a 16-story building both required asbestos abatement prior to the full structural demolition of both buildings.

At the courthouse our team utilized our fleet of excavators, a Volvo 700 Ultra Highreach to systematically dismantle the 7-story concrete and steel structure.

The city Hall Annex was in a unique location with such a mass size that it required an implosion method to bring the building down. We contracted Controlled Demolition, INC. as our explosive subcontractor.

Project Challenges

This project came with many challenges, including:

  • The building was in the heart of downtown Jacksonville on the Saint John River; making noise and dust a major safety priority for our team.
  • This project had a rigorous schedule that required our team to complete the abatement and demolition within the required 240 days

Accomplishments

After the eight-month-long project, Alloy Group was able to successfully complete this project with accomplishments to note:

  • Alloy was able to alleviate noise and dust concerns with the City of Jacksonville.
  • Alloy was able to meet the deadline for an expedited schedule.
