Project Scope

Alloy was contracted by Hoar Construction to perform the structural demolition of the Colony Square Mall located in the heart of Mid-Town Atlanta. The demolition of this three-story, 180,000 sqft structure had its challenges. The first of these being the location of the project. Colony Square Mall is located on Peachtree Street in Mid-Town Atlanta, one of the busiest areas of Atlanta. Not only is the mall located in a high traffic area, but the structure itself is connected to two high-rise office buildings and one high-rise luxury hotel and sits on top of an active three-story subterranean parking deck. With each of these buildings remaining active, noise and dust control have been a priority for our team. . With the help of our inhouse engineer, Alloy designed a demolition plan that incorporates shoring and bracing of the parking structure below and allows for our heavy equipment to safely complete the demolition above. The project plan for demolition constantly evolved due to the actual construction of the structure differing from the as-builts. This required adaptation to the plan and methods to adjust to each challenge. Even with the constant revision of methods, our team remained on schedule and within budget. Over the course of 6 months, our crews completed 2 of 3 phases for this project and safely removed over 40,000 tons of concrete and 5,000 tons of C&D.
